Meet Dr. Natalie Linder, Better Ageing Body Care Genius

Skindays: Can you tell us about the inspiration behind Natalie’s Cosmetics?

Natalie Lindner: Natalie’s Cosmetics was born out of a vision to provide high-quality, science-backed body care products that rival the effectiveness of luxury facial serums. There was a clear gap in the market for body care products, especially ones loaded with active ingredients and sleek, sustainable packaging!

I want to emphasise the significance of the body’s skin, which makes up a substantial 95% of its total surface area. It is essential to understand, that what we apply to our bodies is just as important as what we apply to our faces, and this realisation became a driving force behind the creation of Natalie’s Cosmetics.

By prioritising both the science and efficacy of their products, Natalie’s Cosmetics stands as a testament to my dedication to holistic skincare that encompasses the entire body. Their mission is to provide consumers with body care products that deliver results, reflecting the understanding that what we put on our bodies matters just as much as what we put on our faces.

SD: How can you treat skin conditions with body care?

NL: I have decided to showcase three products that are specifically focussed on a body concern to answer this question properly 

• Our Smooth Body Lotion contains Lactic Acid to help remove dead skin cells, unclog pores, and smooth rough, bumpy skin. In the case of keratosis pilaris (KP), it is particularly effective. Niacinamide has anti-inflammatory properties, which can help calm irritated skin associated with conditions like Keratosis Pilaris.
• Our Purity Lotion for Body Acne contains Azelaic acid that has antimicrobial properties that can target the bacteria responsible for acne breakouts. Azelaic acid also helps to unclog pores and reduce inflammation, making it an excellent choice for acne-prone skin. It also includes Polyhydroxy Acids (PHAs), which are a gentler class of exfoliants.
• Our Better Ageing Body Lotion for wrinkles contains Glycolic Acid and retinol both known for its ability to exfoliate and improve skin texture. It works by encouraging the shedding of dead skin cells, which can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Additionally, they both can stimulate collagen production, contributing to a more youthful complexion.

SD: You tend to look for ingredients with strong studies to back them up. What are the three most common ingredients used throughout your line and what are their pro-ageing benefits?

NL: Retinol, Hyaluronic Acid, and Vitamin C are the three key ingredients found throughout our product line, chosen for their well-documented pro-ageing benefits. I try to stay away from ‘trend’ ingredients and focus on studies!

1. Retinol: stimulates collagen production, which helps to improve skin texture and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. It also aids in cell turnover, leading to fresher, more youthful-looking skin.
2. Hyaluronic Acid: is excellent at retaining moisture. This plumps up the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and giving a more youthful, radiant complexion.
3. Vitamin C: A powerful antioxidant, Vitamin C helps to neutralize free radicals and protect the skin from environmental damage. It’s also instrumental in stimulating collagen production, resulting in firmer and smoother skin.

SD: What has been your most rewarding moment while developing Natalie’s Cosmetics?

NL: Hearing directly from customers about how our products positively impact their skin quality is truly gratifying. It reaffirms that our dedication to quality and effectiveness is making a meaningful difference in people’s lives. Additionally, working with international retailers is a significant milestone for our brand. It not only signifies a growing demand for Natalie’s Cosmetics within the body care space but also shows that our products work!

SD: We love that you stand for “better ageing” and want to create body care products that are “as powerful as a high-end face serum”. Do you have any tips on how to apply them to make the most out of the formulation?

NL: My go-to advice: generally speaking, always apply the products to damp skin, you need less product and it absorbs much better. I also love combining products according to your skin’s needs. I’ll add a couple of drops of oil to a lotion to make it richer or make it lighter by applying the hydration body gel. I also love adding some body oil to my hand cream to give that extra-rich texture and care for my cuticles. 

SD: What’s the one Natalie’s Cosmetics product your friends always ask for advice on?

NL: The Natalie’s Cosmetics product that my friends often seek advice on is the Better Aging Body Lotion. There’s a common misconception that retinol is only necessary in your 30s or 40s, but in reality, starting in your early twenties can be incredibly beneficial. This lotion is formulated to boost collagen production, which is crucial for maintaining youthful and healthy skin. By incorporating it early, we’re taking proactive steps towards long-term skin health and vitality. It’s a product that I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone looking to invest in their skin’s future.
