Doctor-Led Skincare
Skincare founded or developed by doctors: Goldfaden MD, MZ Skin, Decree, Verdilab and Natalie's Cosmetics. "Dermatologist recommended" is a phrase brands use freely and there is no official list behind it, so we show you something checkable instead: who created each range. Goldfaden MD was founded by Dr Gary Goldfaden, whom the brand describes as a dermatologist. MZ Skin was founded by Dr Maryam Zamani, an oculoplastic surgeon known as "The Eye Doctor". Decree is a doctor-led brand from Dr Anita Sturnham, a GP specialising in dermatology. Verdilab Switzerland was founded by Victoria Neymann, a medical doctor, and Natalie's Cosmetics by Dr Natalie Lindner, who trained in medicine in Germany.
Being doctor-founded does not guarantee a product suits your skin, so patch test new products and speak to your own doctor or dermatologist about a skin condition. Not sure where to start? Read our guide to doctor-founded skincare brands in the Skin Diaries.
Doctor-led skincare: frequently asked questions
What does "dermatologist recommended" actually mean?
It can mean very different things, from a survey of a few dermatologists to a paid endorsement. There is no single standard, so check who developed the product and read the ingredient list.
Which of your brands were created by doctors?
Goldfaden MD (Dr Gary Goldfaden, dermatologist), MZ Skin (Dr Maryam Zamani, oculoplastic surgeon), Decree (Dr Anita Sturnham, GP specialising in dermatology), Verdilab Switzerland (medical doctor Victoria Neymann) and Natalie's Cosmetics (Dr Natalie Lindner).
Is doctor-founded skincare better for sensitive skin?
Not automatically. Formulas still vary, so look for fragrance-free options, patch test, and ask your doctor if you have a skin condition.
Where do I find a sunscreen made by a doctor-led brand?
MZ Skin Tint & Protect SPF 30 is a tinted SPF moisturiser from a doctor-founded brand. See also our SPF & Suncare edit.
