Microneedling – Everything To Know about This Skin Boosting Treatment

Microneedling - Skin Boosting Treatment

As one of the most effective ways to rejuvenate your skin without any cosmetic procedure, microneedling has been a hot topic in recent years! Tools have also been created to lightly introduce microneedling at home. Whilst significant benefits include reduction of acne scars and fine lines, it is important to be mindful of the full impact of this practice. We will break it down for you and share the key elements to understand as well as the approach to take for this skin-boosting treatment.

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling is a skin treatment that helps regenerate the skin by inducing the production of collagen. Also named dermal acupuncture, it works with a small device containing sterilised microneedles. These micro needles penetrate the skin and create micro lesions that act as pathways to deeper layers of the skin. This in turn helps ingredients get absorbed by deeper layers of the skin, allowing them to be more effective & boost collagen creation.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN BENEFITS?

1. BETTER AGEING – SMOOTHING FINE LINES & WRINKLES

The skin usually regenerates itself in 21 day cycles. As we get older, our collagen production levels decrease which leads to our skin ageing. The micro lesions created, encourage the skin to naturally regenerate itself to heal them, by stimulating growth in the deeper layers of the skin.

2. SKIN ELASTICITY BOOST

This process also stimulates the production of collagen and Hulu tonic acid, which increases skin elasticity- giving you a more youthful appearance!

3. Reduction in acne & skin scarring

Microneedling allows a more efficient & stronger absolving of skincare ingredients – which helps brighten and restore the skin! Key ingredients such as hyaluronic acid for instance.

MICRONEEDLING AT HOME?

Microneedling at home can be a great way to get introduced as the needle is much gentler on the skin for first time usage.

1. Which tool?

We recommend using a safe roller with a low needle depth (0.23mm for instance)

2. Ingredients to use it with?

  • Hyaluronic acid is the ultimate ingredient to look out for and apply post-microneedling. Given its hydrating attributes it truly helps replenish the skin!
  • Peptides are key for post-microneedling soothing. This gentle ingredient will lock hyaluronic acid absorption in the skin and create a regenerative seal around the skin.
  • SPF (sun protection) is especially non-negotiable post-microneedling as your skin barrier will be more vulnerable to damage.

3. How often?

Once a week to start, and then can be used as often as preferred

4. Maintenance?

Disinfect your tool by leaving it in alcohol for at least 5 minutes or spray the tool with surgical spirit to keep it sterilised between uses.

CAUTION

  • Do not apply any aggressive skincare ingredients after microneedling.
  • If you use retinol, be cautious to use it after a microneedling treatment. If it does not usually cause you sensitivity, it might be ok for you.
  • If you suffer from any of these skin conditions, avoid micro-needling at home: eczema, rosacea, keloids, and perioral dermatitis.
