Your summer energy reset

Getting your energy back this summer

Summer has a way of quietly draining you while seeming to do the opposite. More socializing, more heat, more disrupted sleep, more time away from routine. If you have hit a wall, that is completely normal, and the good news is that it does not take much to turn it around.

Three things summer does to your energy that are worth knowing:

Heat makes your body work harder. Regulating your temperature is a real physiological effort. Your body is burning more energy in the background even when you feel like you are doing nothing.

Sleep quality drops. Warmer nights and longer daylight hours disrupt your circadian rhythm. You might be in bed for eight hours and still wake up flat. The hours are not the whole picture.

Nutrients deplete faster. More time outdoors, more alcohol, less routine. B vitamins, magnesium, and iron are the first to take a hit, and you feel it.

Five things that help

  1. Hydrate beyond water. In the heat you lose electrolytes too. A pinch of sea salt or an electrolyte supplement makes a real difference.

  2. Move earlier. Training in the heat of the day drains you. Early morning is the sweet spot in summer.

  3. Protect your sleep. Blackout blinds, a cooler room, and a consistent wind-down. Treat summer sleep like it needs extra attention, because it does.

  4. Watch the alcohol. Even one or two glasses can disrupt sleep and deplete B vitamins overnight. It is one of the most common reasons people feel flat all summer without making the connection.

  5. Get your blood checked. Iron, ferritin, vitamin D, thyroid. If low energy is a recurring theme, do not guess.

The supplements worth knowing:

  • Magnesium glycinate supports energy production, sleep quality, and stress regulation. Most people are deficient without knowing it. Take it in the evening.

  • B complex is essential for converting food into energy and the first thing depleted by stress and alcohol. A good one taken in the morning makes a noticeable difference within a few weeks.

  • Vitamin D does not stop mattering in summer, especially if you wear SPF consistently or spend daylight hours mostly indoors. Low vitamin D is one of the most overlooked causes of fatigue.

  • Ashwagandha helps regulate cortisol and supports your body's response to stress. If your energy is low and your nervous system feels stretched, this is the one to look at.

Our recommendations this week

On a Personal Note...

I came home from holiday in that lovely in-between state where your head is clear, and your heart is full, but your body is quietly asking for more time. Genuinely happy, genuinely rested in spirit, but not quite ready to hit the ground running.

In the past, I would have ignored that and powered through. This time, I just let myself land slowly. A few quieter days, earlier nights, no pressure to be back at full capacity immediately. And the energy came back properly, rather than me spending the next two weeks running on fumes and pretending otherwise.

Something I have been using a lot this summer and genuinely love: the infrared PEMF mat. Twenty minutes lying on it in the evening, and I notice the difference in how my body feels. Less tension, deeper relaxation, better sleep. I was curious but not convinced when I first tried it. Now it is part of my evening without thinking about it.

The thing I keep coming back to is this: real energy comes from recovering well, not from pushing harder. That shift in thinking has changed a lot for me this year.
